One child has died after being rushed to the hospital when he was caught in a house fire on Detroit's east side. A teen was also rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
The 12- and 17-year-old boy were trapped in their home as it burned early Friday morning. Both were taken to the hospital unresponsive.
The 12-year-old was pronounced dead and, at last check, the 17-year-old is in critical condition.
A family friend on the scene, Frank Taylor, tells FOX 2's Maurielle Lue a couple and four children live in the home on Lyford Street near the Coleman A. Young International Airport. The other two children were not home at the time of the fire.
The father is said to be "like an uncle" to all the other kids on the block and neighbors say they are devastated by the news.
The fire started in the front of the house. The mother is said to have told neighbors a space heater was warming the home.
Arson investigators have not concluded what caused the fire, but neighbors believe it was electrical due to the space heater.
