Brighton man arrested in fatal hit-and-run of 22-year-old riding his bike
(FOX 2) - State police arrested a Brighton man after identifying him as a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run on Monday morning.
The suspect struck a 22-year-old from Howell while the victim was riding his bike home from work, Michigan State Police said on social media.
Troopers from MSP's Brighton Post were called to Old US-23 Highway near Bergin Road after someone in the area observed the crash scene. They were dispatched around 1:40 a.m. to the area.
The victim had been on his bike riding home from his night shift when he was fatally struck, state police said. There were no witnesses.
Instead, police managed to develop a suspect vehicle using car parts at the scene. Working alongside the Livingston County Sheriff and local Hamburg Township police, law enforcement eventually identified a 63-year-old man as the driver.
He was traveling in a 2013 Ford F-150 when he allegedly struck the victim.
Police eventually took the man into custody. It's unclear if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
