Legendary actor Burt Reynolds has died of a heart attack Thursday morning at a hospital in Florida.
The 82-year-old actor was transported a Florida hospital after going into cardiac arrest. His family was by his side when he passed.
Reynolds was a star in the moves and on TV -- appearing in classics like Smokey and the Bandit, Boogie Nights and Cannonball Run.
Reynolds often claimed to have been born in Georgia but was actually born in Lansing, Michigan. His family later moved back to Michigan, Lake City, which was his mother's hometown.
After high school, he went to Florida State University on scholarship to play football. In the first game of his sophomore season, he injured his knee. He was later in a car accident with more injuries that slowed him on the field and gave up football in October 1957.
He then picked up acting and made his film debut in Angel Baby in 1961. Over the next several years he picked up several roles but was perhaps best known for Smokey and the Bandit in 1977 and then Cannonball Run in 1981.
He also was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Boogie Nights. He had support roles in Without a Paddle, The Longest Yard remake, and Dukes of Hazzard remake. Just this may, he joined the cast of Once Upon a time in Hollywood.
