Lions' Campbell says David Montgomery should be back for playoffs after the bye
FOX 2 - On Tuesday Coach Dan Campbell gave some injury updates - including the good news that running back David Montgomery is expected back for the NFC Division Round of the playoffs.
That game will either be Jan. 18 or 19 against the lowest remaining seeded opponent - the Rams, Vikings, Commanders or Packers.
When asked if he expected Montgomery back for the Divisional Round, Campbell replied "I do."
Montomery injured his left MCL and opted for rehab over surgery in an effort to come back faster. In his absence, fellow tailback Jahmyr Gibbs has taken on a bigger workload - highlighted by Sunday's 170 rushing and receiving yards, four-touchdown performance against Minnesota.
This season the Lions ranked sixth in rushing yards - led by Gibbs's 1,412 and 16 rushing touchdowns while Montgomery added 775 with 12 TDs.
Montgomery was injured in the Week 15 loss to the Buffalo Bills and has missed the last three games.
The Lions now get the luxury of resting this week and letting the dust settle from the NFL's Wildcard Round this weekend which will determine their opponent.
"Back to back division wins and we got the one seed," Campbell said. "So we knocked out two of our goals this year and we've got one more to go."
