Canton man's Halloween charity display to reopen after township agreement

CANTON TWP., Mich. (WJBK) - Skullman's Ghastly Garage will be open for business this weekend in Canton Township.

The DIY haunted house that attracts hundreds every year had been shut down by the township's fire marshal for a lack of permits. FOX 2's Randy Wimbley reported two days ago that homeowner Michael Fillion needed a special event license and inspection. 

Every year Fillion's attraction collects hundreds of pounds of food for Gleaners which he collects for an admission fee. On Thursday he got some good news.

"The fire marshal came out this afternoon to do an inspection on what we had taken down," Kathy Fillion, his wife said in a release. "We were elated to hear that we have taken enough down to reclassify our haunt as a walk-through display, not a haunted house.

"There are no permit requirements for a "walk-through display"…. which means we are OPEN FOR BUSINESS this weekend. Those of you who have been through the Haunted House in the past will undoubtedly notice that it is different this year. We have had to change the layout and open things up a bit more, but were able to incorporate many elements from our "Haunted House" into our new "Haunted Walk-Through Display.
