(WJBK) - The Michigan boy fighting a rare brain cancer whose story has been heard across the country has been put in hospice care. Chad Carr, also known as "Chad Tough", is the grandson of former University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr. He was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) in September of 2014. Since then, he has undergone several exhaustive medical treatments.
Chad's mother, Tammi Curtis Carr, posted his health update Wednesday morning.
"His breathing and swallowing have been getting worse not better, he can no longer walk and his speech is sporadic," Chad's mother, Tammi Curtis Carr, said in her Facebook update. "We kept waiting to see improvement, kept waiting to see things turning around, but the reality is that they aren't."
News outlets across the country have followed his journey. Wigs and Wishes surprised Chad this summer with a beach in his backyard, as the family wasn't able to make the trip. Chad even got his own theme song from Ariel, Zoey & Eli Engelbert.
