Commerce Charter Township woman outsmarts attempted robbers

A Commerce Charter Township woman outsmarted two teenagers attempting to rob her Wednesday morning.

While shoveling snow at her home on the 8000 block of Woodspur Drive around 5:30 a.m., a woman spotted two suspicious men walking toward her. She got into her car and one of the suspects knocked on the window. The suspect held up a gun and said he wanted her purse.

She rolled the window down an inch and told the suspect her purse was in the house. The robber allowed her to go inside her home, where she immediately locked the door and called 911.

"I don't know if the suspect thought that she was going to come out of the house once she was in and then give up her purse and her money, but very, very stupid," said Lieutenant Dennis Servis of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Police followed the suspects' footprints in the snow to tire tracks, where they likely got into a car and drove away. The investigation remains open.

The attempted robber is described as a thin, black teenager wearing black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt with white zippers.
