Convicted killer Charles Lewis Jr. found, arrested in Lansing

LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) - A convicted killer who was missing for nearly two weeks in Michigan has been captured.

Lansing police arrested Charles Lewis Jr. early Friday after several tips led authorities to his location.

The 20-year-old went missing September 4. Police said he left his job at the McDonald's on 15 Mile and Harper but never returned to his group home in Clinton Township.

Lewis was charged with murdering a woman in Lansing when he was just 13 years old. He was convicted two years later and had been held in juvenile facilities.

In 2015, the Department of Health and Human Services placed Lewis in the group home in Clinton Township, and he was allowed to attend community college classes and get a job.

Lansing police say Lewis was taken back into custody without incident.

He had been convicted in the 2010 killing of 19-year-old Shayla Johnson, which happened in Lansing.
