Conyers' wife on harassment claims: "do a little bit more investigation "

Calls for Congressman John Conyers' resignation getting louder on Capitol Hill but his wife is coming to his defense, saying her husband is entitled to due process before his legacy is tarnished.

Monica Conyers seemed to be in pretty good spirits Wednesday afternoon and she was sticking up for her husband, who flew home to Detroit from Washington on Tuesday night.

"What I don't understand is this: We keep not allowing the process to work and you all just want to kill this man, who's dedicated 53 years of his life to community service and helping people, for a serial accuser," she said.

Two women have come forward saying that Congressman Conyers made sexual advances to them. First, Melanie Sloan, a Conyers employee in the '90's, who claims she was called to Conyers office and found him walking around in his underwear.

"Melanie Sloan said that he was just mean to her. Who all could have a bad day in a stressful job. Who else?" Monica said.

There's Deanna Maher, another staffer who said the congressman made sexual advances to her three times and was told to babysit his son.

"Deanna Maher - that's a story from 2006. Couldn't get us on babysitting so now he's groping her," Monica said.

Then Monica offered this:

"Most women have experienced some form of sexual harassment. Or maybe if I come up to you right now  Charlie and I do like this and say oh hey Charlie, that doesn't mean like I'm sexually harassing you," she said.

The congressman said he would cooperate with the House Ethics investigation.  And Monica left us

with these words: “Before you start saying and believing what one person says, just do a little bit more investigation before you try to just kill a person. That's all.”
