You're not supposed to take what isn't yours but that's exactly what some crooks are caught doing at a clothing store on Detroit's west side.

The owner says the store has been there for decades, but he's never seen behavior like this.

"What they used to get these items off, which is a weapon, my mom's been here for the past 20 years working here at the location and we've never had anything like this," said owner Mike Hacham.

Thursday evening some crooks put their eyes on some clothing - and then started using their hands ripping off merchandise from Simone's clothing on W. Warren in Detroit.

"We've never had this issue," he said. "We know everybody name by name. It’s the small businesses that make up this area. All of us are family around here.

"Just to see something like this happen in broad daylight kind of mind boggles you."

On security video take a look as the guy yanks the clothing from an outdoor display. And another guy stops to look it over first as if he's shopping and then steals it, walking off with the stolen goods.

But it doesn't end there - size, color shape of the clothes doesn't matter.  they just steal it all.

"I mean these items cost less than a cheeseburger by cost, but just the thought and the ethics of it, is 'Don't steal,'" Hacham said.

Simone's has been part of the west side community for about 30 years and they've put out outdoor displays for the past 15 or 20 years.  Mike Hacham says he's never had a problem until now.

"We're here to serve the community so anybody who comes to us, we help them out," he said. "But for this to happen, these guys have to be put out and the world has to see who they are."

Still Hacham has sympathy for those who stole from him.

"We really want to help these guys out, say hey, there are jobs out there," he said. "I would be more than happy to set them up with a job myself."

Hacham says his family has had offers to leave the city, but they will continue to remain loyal to Detroit and their customers.

"One situation like this isn't going to set us back," he said. "But it is going to make us stronger."
