Dash cam video shows passerby help deputy with arrest

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) - During rush hour on Friday in Rochester Hills, an Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy made a traffic stop.
 
"There's a no turn sign there, you can't turn, I don't care what he told you, the sign tells you, you can't," the officer said. "You got some weed in the car? I can smell it bro."

According to the sheriff's office Jerry Williams, 24, from Kentucky did have weed and $5,000 in cash and a vile containing liquid Ecstasy.

"Drop it, now. Put your hands on the car," the officer says.

On the video you see car after car drive by without stopping. But one car did stop rolled down his window and asked a simple question.

"I said 'Hey do you need some help' and the deputy said 'Yeah,'" Dmitry Mkrtychyan. "I was surprised that he said that." 
 
The police dash cam captured that exact moment he pulled up in a black Nissan SUV.

Before getting out to help, Mkrtychyan handed his phone to his daughter.

"I always teach my daughters that when you can help somebody, help them," he said. "It doesn't matter if it's your neighbor, your co-worker, friend, teacher, law enforcement, help."
  
And that's what Mkrtychyan tried to do. With the deputy struggling to cuff Williams, the passer-by jumped on his back until back-up arrived.

"At that point I went and grabbed my camera and I started recording," he said. "I told him to calm down, calm down."

Dmitry says all he was trying to do was de-escalating a situation trying to prevent anyone from getting hurt. But when it comes to helping there are lines he won't cross.

Williams asked him to call his mom, but Mkrtychyan declined.

Williams was taken into custody charged with resisting arrest and drug possession.
