Dearborn Heights cop gets misdemeanor charge in crash that killed man

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) - The Dearborn Heights police officer who crashed into a car in January that resulted in the death of the other driver, has been charged with a misdemeanor for the crash.

Dearborn Heights Police Officer Larry Little was charged on Monday with a moving violation causing death in the January 2 crash. Little was charged in the crash that happened seven months ago that critically injured Timothy Turner.

Officer Little and his partner were speeding down Van Born road to make a traffic stop. Instead, they t-boned Turner in his Lexus as he tried to make a turn. The police car did not have its emergency lights activated at the time of the crash.

While clinging to life, his family spoke to FOX 2 about the accident.

"Right now I'm numb. I can't believe this has happened," his niece, Kellie Stuart, said.

Within days of the crash, Turner was taken off life-support.

In the seven months since the crash, the Michigan State Police conducted an investigation. That landed the 33-year-old officer in court on the misdemeanor charge with a possible sentence of a year in jail and/or a $2,000 fine.

"Nine years as a law enforcement officer, he's not a threat at all to the community. This matter happened during the course of his employment, he has the support of his department here as well. We would ask if there any, it be a personal bond. He's going to be defending this fully, your honor," his attorney, Christopher Tomasi, said.

Little's personal bond is set at $10,000. Little is currently on paid administrative leave from the Dearborn Heights police department, pending the outcome of the case.
