Detroit Dog Rescue, firefighters team up to make calendar
(WJBK) - Detroit firefighters are teaming up with some furry friends for a cute calendar.
They're so cute and cuddly, these pups can turn even the toughest guys pretty soft. Detroit's rugged Engine 57 was the spot for a lovable photo shoot Friday.
As the Detroit Dog Rescue prepares for its annual calendar -- the rescue is paying tribute to these firefighters.
"They will be July, it is going to be hot in July so we are honoring the firefighters of Detroit in July of 2018," said Kristina Rinaldi, Detroit Dog Rescue.
And they will do it while using their own rescued pups and some more furry faces up for adoption.
"We'll also be honoring (Wayne State police) officer Colin Rose who passed away last year and the Detroit Police Department as well as Wayne State."
Rinaldi says the rescue depends on these firefighters and first responders just as much, as they say, they depend on her.
"The amount of dogs in the city, its sad when you see little ones running around," said Sgt. Jimmy Nadolski. "But then knowing someone is there to take them and always finding a home for them, no ifs ands or buts, it's great."
"We call them at 2, 3, 4 o'clock in the morning and they will come to our firehouse within a half an hour and pick up dogs from us," said firefighter Alex Loiselle. "It's just the commitment that Kristina and her team put in for everyone down here is amazing."
"They are their stress relief, their best friend, they are a happy face to go home to," Rinaldi said.
The pups got a whole lot of love as some of Detroit's finest didn't seem to want to let them go.
"If you spend time with any dog, they will give back 10 times what you give," said Loiselle.
You can preorder your calendar for just $20, all of the proceeds going to Detroit Dog Rescue and they will ship Nov. 1.
