DETROIT (FOX 2) - A Detroit family is living in fear after their west-side home was shot up three times - and now they’re facing even more frustration.
"I’m scared for my kids," said Jackie Hundley. "It takes me back to the first time it happened, still having to walk down to my living room and see bullet holes in my wall."
Hundley, her wife, and their four children heard those noises and saw the terrible aftermath three times in the late spring and early summer of last year.
She says police got a suspect in the fall, but the case is now dropped.
"I get a call the morning of, saying the case is going to be dismissed," she said. "How does anybody think I should feel?"
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to FOX 2 that the case was dismissed Tuesday.
"Why is he still out, why isn’t he still being detained?" she said. "I'm doing my part, why can’t they do theirs?"
The prosecutor’s office said a lack of evidence was the reason for the dismissal.
In a statement they said the suspect who is under 18, "... Could not be identified as the shooter in this case. Forensic evidence was requested and evaluated. Unfortunately, it did not support an identification of the juvenile. An experienced assistant prosecutor and the head of the WCPO Juvenile Unit determined that dismissing the case under these circumstances was the correct and ethical course of action."
Hundley isn't buying it.
