Detroit firefighter found dead was 25 year veteran

The family of 59-year-old David Madrigal has been at his house on Vaughan Street all morning long after Madrigal was found dead the night before. His family is trying to secure some of his belongings and property.

Madrigal worked for the fire department for 25 plus years and was assigned to Engine 33 on Lawndale. We're told he's also a member of the Honor Guard and was set to retire soon.

Madrigal's son went to check on him around 7:30 p.m. Monday and found him dead in a chair. We're told an upstairs bedroom was ransacked and a floor safe was stolen.

Madrigal's car was also missing. He drove a 2015 black Ford Explorer. It has since been found and it was set on fire.

If you have any information that could help police make an arrest you're asked to give them a call.

Editor's Note: Early reports indicated Madrigal had been shot, but the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office determined he had not been shot, but was killed by blunt force trauma to the head.
