You can make a difference on Angels' Night.
City officials joining forces with leaders from the community police, and fire departments, to call on residents to volunteer for the Angels' Night campaign.
"All we need is that one pillar of light and in the city of Detroit we know we have thousands," James Tate of Detroit City Council said.
Six thousand people came out to volunteer last year and city officials say they want to recruit even more this year.
Volunteer Barbara Matney got involved patrolling her neighborhood and says it's the right thing to do.
"The only way to make positive change is to get out and get involved," she said.
And patrolling a neighborhood isn't the only way to help out.. You can monitor activities on your block or even donate candy to your area Detroit police station.
"It is very simple just drop off candy donation in a big orange box like this one located in the lobby of the precinct," said District 1 Manager Stephanie Young.
Police Chief James Craig believes the campaign is working.
"This is just about a holiday and let's treat it as such. We've moved so far behind this whole criminal activity whether its fireworks or Angels' Night. Let's just have a good time," he said.
So how can you register to become a volunteer?
"It's a simple process. Two ways, Contact the Angels' Night hotline at 313-224-4415 or visit us at website at www.angelsnight.org," District 3 Manager Erin Harris said.
And officials say to help volunteers keep things safe, a curfew for minors will be in place again this year and so will a gasoline purchase restriction.
"Beginning Friday, October 27 at midnight until Tuesday, October 31 until 11:59 pm you must be 18 years old to purchase fuel," Fire Commissioner Eric Jones said.
Organizers want residents to realize they can help out on Angels' Night and throughout the year.
"Make sure we get out and stay involved not just during Angels Night but 365 days a year that's when we need you," Tate said.
