Detroit police: children chose to sleep on a porch after parents did everything they could
DETROIT (FOX 2) - FOX 2 viewers have been reaching out, asking what happened to those boys who lived on a porch in Detroit. Police are on the case, but the future of the brothers is still unclear.
Neighbors on Detroit's west side grew nervous about two young teens that had been sleeping outside on a porch, using the area to rest.
The plunging temperatures and snowy start to the holidays raised concerns for the well-being of the juveniles.
FOX 2's story prompted an in-depth investigation by the Detroit police child abuse unit. The investigation found that the two children wanted to sleep outside and that they always had access to the home and the bathroom.
There was no punishment that led to them sleeping on the porch.
Police say the parents tried to get their kids in therapy and everything possible to redirect their path.
The parents have been cleared of any potential charges,
Meanwhile, the older brother has had past behavioral issues. He has a pending assault and battery case.
