Detroit police corporal charged with beating patient at hospital on video

DETROIT (FOX 2) - A Detroit Police Department corporal was charged with beating a patient at Detroit Receiving Hospital. 

The incident was caught on a cell phone camera back in August.

The video shows 47-year old corporal Dewayne Jones repeatedly punching a naked woman who was suffering a mental health issue. 

Police say the woman had spit on hospital staff, bit a security guard, and tried to bite the corporal.

But prosecutors say Corporal Jones overreacted. He's charged with misconduct in office, a five-year felony, and assault and battery, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned on November 27, 2018 and received a bond of $5000. Jones had his probable cause hearing and his preliminary examination has been scheduled for December 19, 2018 before Judge Cylenthia Miller.
