DETROIT (FOX 2) - Detroit police have taken the father of an 8-year-old shooting victim into custody and several weapons were recovered from the home where the incident happened.
Police are now working with the Wayne County Prosecutor's office on charges after the child was shot, which officers called another tragic shooting involving an unsecured weapon and a young people.
The child remains in critical condition after being struck in the head.
Currently, the father is being held on a second-degree child neglect charge, though the prosecutor could bring more charges forward.
Officers were called to 14800 block of Snowden on Detroit's west side for reports that a child had been shot in the head Tuesday afternoon. According to a timeline from police, law enforcement wasn't called to the home until 30 minutes after the shooting happened.
The victim's father, mother, aunt, and uncle were all inside the home at the time, and all were asleep.

A spokesperson on Wednesday said several weapons were recovered from the home and police believed one of firearms was used in the shooting.
It's also unclear if the victim was struck by a self-inflicted gunshot or it was fired by one of the other children inside the home. Four kids were at the residence when the gun went off, ranging in age from 1 to 8 years old.
