Detroit police officer run down on northwest side

A suspect critically injured a Detroit police officer on the northwest side Friday.

The incident happened at about shortly after 10:30 p.m. with a cargo van hitting the officer, near Puritan and Monica, west of Livernois and north of the Lodge freeway.

FOX 2's Ron Savage reports the injured officer is listed in "very critical."

A suspect the police is looking for is described as a white male in a dark coat. Canine units are at the scene tracking the suspect.

The officer had pulled over a sedan at the time of the crash, and was outside his vehicle when the van struck him and the car. 

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital.
