Detroit police shoot woman who fired upon repo driver

Detroit police shot a woman Thursday afternoon after she fired upon a repo driver, officials said.

The woman was struck but only suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

What we know:

A woman taking aim at a man attempting to reposes a vehicle was struck by police on Thursday afternoon. It happened in the 10900 block of Nottingham.

Law enforcement pulled up to the scene where officers observed the woman targeting the man. She was shot in the shoulder and forearm, police said, but should survive.

"I'm happy to report it could have been a lot worse," said Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison.

Police also recovered a weapon.

Bettison said officers were on routine patrol when they observed the woman firing shots at a truck and a man. She was allegedly trying to stop the man from repossessing her vehicle.

Charges are expected to be filed with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

The repo driver is also expected to be okay.
