Busy weekend in store for downtown Detroit with Taylor Swift shows, Pride Festival and Tigers
With so many people packing the city, Detroit police are taking some extra steps to keep everyone safe.
DETROIT (FOX 2) - Between the Taylor Swift concert, the Motor City Pride festival this weekend and the Tigers at home on Friday, downtown Detroit is about to be rocking.
With so many people packing the city, Detroit police are taking some extra steps to keep everyone safe.
Taylor Swift will be performing back-to-back shows at Ford Field Friday and Saturday. The long lines for merchandise, already started on Thursday!
Large crowds are also expected at Motor City Pride scheduled Saturday in Hart Plaza.

"We are expecting a huge turnout this year," said Cpl. Dani Woods, DPD LGBTQ liaison. "Everyone is coming out to celebrate love, prosperity, pride, solidarity, peace, positivity."
This all means a busy weekend of prep work by Detroit police monitoring for any potential threats against parade-goers.
"We utilize our Crime Intelligence Unit for any information that is out there in the social media world that might dictate differently as far as bad actors and things of that nature," said Cmdr. Melissa Gardner, DPD Downtown Services.
You’ll see – sky towers feeding back live video to the Detroit Police Department real-time Crime Center.
Weapons detection machines will be strategically placed throughout downtown.

"We just ask that you leave weapons at home again," Gardner said. "We do have people who are looking to break into vehicles to recover weapons
