Detroit recreation centers offer free summer memberships for teens, young adults
DETROIT (FOX 2) - Teens and young adults can enjoy Detroit's 10 recreation centers for free all summer.
From June 12 through Sept. 30, Detroit residents who are 13-24 can get a pass to visit any of the city's rec centers.
At the centers, young people can enjoy basketball courts, swimming pools, tennis courts, computer labs, game rooms, dance studios, and more. Additionally, every center has free internet access and air conditioning, and school-aged children have access to free food at the centers.
"We have so many teens and young adults in the city, but limited summer activities available for them," said Keith Flournoy, deputy director of the Detroit Recreation Division. "We hope that by offering these free memberships, we lay a foundation for a stronger community inside and outside the recreation centers."
To get a pass, visit any Detroit recreation center. Find your nearest rec center here.
Job opportunities are also available for young people looking for work this summer. See the open positions under "work for the rec" here.
