Detroit water main break leaves some Greeley residents without water

A Detroit community was without water on Wednesday after an overnight water main break.

The incident had water department crews working since 3:30 a.m. on one block of Greeley near 7 Mile. As night turned to day, the sounds of jack hammers and gushing water from the broken main filled the air as workers tried to improve the situation in the area.

Still, some residents on the block are without running water, with some worried about the road conditions.

"We already have cars like sliding down the street. Once that freezes up it will be worse," said resident Albert Thomas. "Water everywhere people can’t drive down the street, it’s crazy."

FOX 2 checked with the city’s water and sewerage department with them saying the water main broke sometime overnight on Tuesday or into the early morning hours on Wednesday.

Water mains are expected to break, and residents in Greeley should expect the repair to be complete before the end of Wednesday.

"I feel for them, especially the ones that need some water, they might have a medical issue," said resident Albert Thomas.

Once the water main is good to go, the water will be turned back on, flowing from the tap instead of onto the street.
