A domestic violence situation ended with at least one dead in Farmington Sunday night.

According to Farmington Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin officers were called to the 22900 block of Warner Street for a domestic situation.

When the police arrived, they found a woman who had been shot, and her husband had retreated into their house.

Houhanisin said he didn't have the condition of the female victim as of 8 p.m. Sunday night.

After a several hour stand-off, police entered the house and found the husband deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot.

"Officers secured the scene and the SWAT team went inside to confirm there was no other danger," Houhanisin said.

Houhanisin said the situation took a long time to "progress through" because of concerns for the safety of the officers involved.

"We want to reiterate that the community is safe," he said.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said that his officers provided support for the Farmington Public Safety Department.

The identity of the victim and the shooter was not immediately released.
