DETROIT (WJBK) - Officials with the Detroit Public Schools Community District outlined Friday a new plan that aims at increasing the academic performance of students.
An advisory board of about 160 people connected with the district came up with the plan and goals for the district.
The plan includes five main objectives that focus on literacy, creating career pathways for students and to educate in more innovative, creative ways.
"I think people should, every day, be renewed in their hope that we are headed in the right direction. We are a new district; we are financially new and we are looking at being new academically," says the interim superintendent, Alycia Meriweather.
Parts of the plan will be implemented as soon as next semester.
