Driver seriously injured in crash between two semi trucks on I-96 in Novi

A crash involving two semi trucks left one driver injured on I-96 in Novi Monday morning.

The backstory:

A gravel hauler was slowing down in the right eastbound lane near Beck Road before being rear-ended by a truck tractor trailer at 7:35 a.m. The crash scene was cleared at about 11:30 a.m.

The driver of the semi was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive. The gravel hauler was not injured, said Michigan State Police Second District on X, formerly Twitter.

"The gravel hauler driver stated he was slowing for traffic congestion and had activated his hazard lights," said the MSP Second District account.

MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said it is another reminder to leave enough distance between the front of your vehicle and the driver in front.

""Rear end crashes are totally preventable," he said. "Drivers should always leave enough room to react to sudden stops, emergencies or changes in road conditions."
