Authorities in Pontiac are looking for a driver that they say hit and killed a person crossing the street this weekend.

Police say the crash happened near the intersection of University Drive and Melrose Street late Saturday night. Police say a 29-year-old man was crossing the street when he was hit by the driver of a full size extended cab Chevrolet pickup.

Paramedics arrived on scene and took the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

People in the area say, unfortunately, incidents like this are nothing new.

"There's been multiple individuals hit and killed. Something just needs to happen," says Michael Matthews. He came outside just as the accident happened. He witnessed someone giving CPR to the victim.

"I lived over here all my life. I've been hit right there, twice," says Bruce O'Neal. "Somebody did get killed, one of my best friends got killed right there at that corner."

Police say the Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck is possibly tan or silver in color, and is reported to have a passenger side tail light out. The pickup truck will have damage to the front driver's side head light assembly.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. There is a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest. You will remain anonymous.

Authorities have not yet identified the victim, except to say he is a 29-year-old resident of Pontiac.
