Drunk driving crackdown in effect - Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

As the holidays approach, police agencies across the state are ramping up enforcement with the familiar reminder

As the holidays approach, police agencies across the state are ramping up enforcement with the reminder - drive sober or get pulled over.

For the next three weeks this campaign across the state and the country, is underway to cut down on drunk driving.

James, a bartender at Oak Park's Dog and Pony Show, said his staff has trained to recognize situations and know to take action.

"We have intervention procedures," he said. "We can see if they are visually impaired, we also keep track of how much they've had."

It is not illegal to drink and drive per se, but a .08 percent blood concentration of alcohol is the legal limit.

James also spoke about the police crackdown for the holidays.

"For us it's very important, but for us - we practice it all year long," he said. "We (take) it to heart and make sure that people are safe."

One of the patrons, Brandon, chimed in on all the alternatives available for those who have had too much to drink.

"Uber, Lyft, Cab, it's too easy in today's day and age to be able to make smart decisions," he said.

Another of the bartenders, Jessica spoke about the non-alcohol alternatives that are available.

"This is our Hopwater, which is our sparkling water we flavor with hops," she said. "We have tangerine and lime, but we also serve Faygo products and other non-alcoholic options."
