The well-known Edward Hotel & Convention Center in Dearborn closed abruptly Friday at 12 p.m.

The building has signs posted about the closure, calling it an indefinite renovation. Code violation notices were also posted from the City of Dearborn.

A letter from the City says The Edward Hotel has been deemed unfit for human occupancy, and that the structure is unsafe, unlawful and in disrepair due to lack of maintenance and fire hazards.

A worker contacted FOX 2 saying that they are out of a job, while visitors staying at the hotel were informed that they had to be out by noon.

Officials with the hotel haven't released any other information at this time.

The hotel overlooks Ford World Headquarters, the Henry Ford Museum and Dearborn.

When asked about what's next for the building, a city spokesperson said that the city would be interested in speaking with any developer or company who would want to make the iconic building thrive as a hotel, once again.
