A 60-year-old Erie man nearly got $1 when he tried to rob Chase Bank in Taylor on Jan. 9, but the teller refused to give him even that before he left.

According to police, the man entered the bank on Northline Road at about 2 p.m. and told the teller to "give me the money."

He didn't have a note, but did have his hand in his pocket, suggesting he might have a weapon. Police said the teller asked the would-be robber "are you serious?" and he responded again to give him the money.

Police said she still didn't believe the man, and pulled a single dollar from her drawer, but when he reached for it, she pulled it back and he fled the bank with nothing.

He was driving a "distinctive" truck, and was caught at the Red Roof Inn near the bank.
