(WJBK) - Loved ones are horrified and shocked after a loving father was killed Wednesday in a senseless act.
On his way home from a construction job, 32-year-old Kenneth White was killed by a rock thrown from an I-75 overpass. He was riding in the passenger's side of a truck near Dodge Road on the highway when the rock went through the windshield and struck him.
"He was living his life. He wasn't doing anything wrong. He was coming home to his family, and because of them, he didn't make it home," said his sister-in-law Kristina Cagle.
Several teenagers are in custody and police shut down part of I-75 on Friday for a brief period to continue their investigation. FOX 2 is waiting on more information from the Genesee County Sheriff's Office on how many people are in custody, their ages, and if they found any new evidence during their follow up investigation at the location where the crime took place.
"These kids ... Couldn't they just go skip rocks on the river or something instead of doing something so senseless. They took away somebody's father, somebody's son, and we're never going to get that back," Cagle said. "Because of a joke. Because of some kind of prank gone wrong or whatever. It's no laughing matter. Nobody's laughing."
White came from a large family. Relatives are traveling from Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina to celebrate his life. Everyone is trying to comprehend this tragedy but no kind of answer will make any sense.
"Not more so why, but what were they thinking? Did it even matter to them? It just affected some people's lives, but he was a great father. He was Kenneth, and we're going to miss him," Cagle said.
No one else was hurt, but four other vehicles also struck with large rocks and concrete chunks during this incident.
