Family mourns 4-year-old boy mauled to death by dog: 'It’s a pain I can’t even describe'
DETROIT, Mich. (FOX 2) - The family of a 4-year-old boy killed by a dog in Detroit gathered on Monday for a candlelight vigil, remembering him as a sweet boy with an old soul.
Lovell Anderson was mauled to death while playing in his grandmother's fenced backyard on Oct. 18; a pit bull managed to grab and pull him to the other side through a gap underneath the fence.
"He loved family. He was such a character, really, such a little man," said Monique Grant, Anderson's aunt. "We are just trying to rally together and keep my sister and my brother-in-law strong through all of this."
The family is still in the midst of processing Anderson's tragic death.
"It’s a pain I can’t even describe. It’s one thing to prepare for somebody to pass –and for them to just be taken from you– it’s a whole (other) kind of pain," Grant continued.
4-year-old boy mauled to death by loose dog in Detroit
A four-year-old boy was killed by a loose neighborhood dog in Detroit. The victim was in his grandmother's backyard when the dog attacked, according to the Detroit Police Department.
A Go Fund Me was created to assist the family with unexpected funeral expenses, as they plan to give Anderson "the best Spider-Man memorial he deserves," according to the fundraiser.
Following the attack, animal control apprehended two pit bulls in the vicinity – one is believed to be a nearby neighbor's while the other is the grandmother's.
"What we are still waiting to find out is the dogs that are in custody, if they have been able to identify the owner and what that would allow," said Peter O’toole, the family's attorney.
The family is pursuing legal action – whether that is criminal or civil action is yet to be determined.
"We don’t want this to happen to anybody else," Grant said. "That's the main thing – do not take this lightly."
