Family owned toy store helps Michigan mother affected by baby's cancer diagnosis
BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2) - As a family deals with their 9-month-old's liver cancer diagnosis, they received a special gift for the holidays, thanks to a local toy store.
Earlier in December, when FOX 2 met Stacy Wells, she was praying for a Christmas miracle.
"I mean my hope is that JoJo will be cancer free. We know that can’t happen by Christmas time, but that’s really the biggest thing," said Wells.
Stacy is the mom of triplets but just a few weeks ago she felt a mass on one of the babies, nine-month-old JoJo.
Doctors would soon confirm the devastating diagnosis. JoJo has liver cancer.
FOX 2 told the community about the family’s plight. Eight-year-old Ezra Klar was watching the story and had an idea: to donate some toys from his family's store, Toyology.
Ezra’s family owns the toy store. He felt it would be a good idea to be a Christmas miracle for the family and grant toys for the family’s seven children.
"She had a shopping spree with $500, 25% discount, so it was way more than $500 worth of toys," said Ezra.
The Klar family says they believe in giving back.
"We donate to other families before," Ezra said.
"I think also when we heard it say they need like a Christmas miracle or something like that, that’s when Ezra looked at me and was like mom, let’s to something with Toyology," said mother Jenna Klar.
Stacy was overwhelmed by the show of support and says her heart was filled with joy.
"Spent about an hour just walking around and looking at everything and picking things out for the kids," said Wells.
Stacy and her husband are unable to work outside the home as they deal with JoJo's medical challenges so Ezra’s idea to play Santa was much needed relief.
"The way the community has stepped up to support us has really been touching to see," Wells said.
Ezra did not stop with a shopping spree to help this family in fact he now has a challenge he hopes you will support to benefit the family.
"I challenge all of you guys to donate at least $1 to the GoFundMe page for JoJo," said Ezra.
Ezra hopes everyone realizes this holiday that it’s better to give than to receive.
