17-year-old girl dies after crashing through pair of fences on 19 Mile Road

A 17-year-old girl was killed after crashing through two fences before coming to rest against a garage Tuesday.

The victim was driving a gray 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt on westbound 19 Mile from Romeo Plank when it sideswiped a black 2014 Ford Explorer next to it. The Cobalt lost control jumping the curb and hitting a wooden fence - then a cyclone fence, ending at a garage at the location.

The crash has led to 19 Mile Road closed in the area of Garfield Tuesday night.  Police say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

The family has been notified, and police say the victim is a resident of Clinton Township. Grief counselors will be at school tomorrow to assist.

Her identity has not been released yet.
