Two female inmates fled from the Livingston County court after their hearings Wednesday.
The suspects, identified as Nicole Lyn Vermeylen, 40, of Montrose and Lisa Marie Finlayson, 32 from Howell, were able to slip out of their handcuffs while being escorted by a deputy to a patrol car at 11:30 a.m. reports the Livingston Daily.
Both were captured a short time later with Finlayson being apprehended after jumping into the Mill Pond. A witness, Jordan Gustin, saw the incident from the shore and recorded it with his cell phone. In his video which he shared with FOX 2, the officer was on a orange floating machine in the water at the time of the capture.
Vermeylen was caught after allegedly breaking into a house nearby and changing into different clothing with a stolen purse, the paper reports.
Vermeylen is charged with second degree child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor and Finlayson was to be sentenced for operating under the influence of a controlled substance resulting death. More charges are now likely.
