Ferndale man sexually assaulted woman, strangled her before barricading self in home
FERNDALE, Mich. (FOX 2) - A Ferndale man was taken into custody early Sunday morning after spending hours barricaded inside a home following orders from police to give himself up.
Kenneth Hansen, 32, had sexually assaulted a woman before strangling her, police learned after receiving a 911 call around 7 a.m.
Because the location of the attack happened on a home near the Ferndale-Hazel Park border, it was Hazel Park police that first responded.
When they arrived, they were met by a female victim who had fled the home on Pilgrim Street after Hansen had attacked her.
From there, police established a perimeter around the home and tried contacting Hansen, who refused to comply. He rejected their requests to exit the home for more than two hours, making suicidal threats and threats of violence toward the officers.
Police eventually used a taser as a means to Hansen into custody. He was charged with counts of assault, criminal sexual conduct, and domestic violence and was given a $300,000 cash bond.
