Fire leaves owners of Auburn Cafe promising to rebuild

Fire destroys popular Ecorse restaurant, the Auburn Cafe

The Dec. 10 fire ripped through the inside of the Jefferson Avenue restaurant, which has been in Ecorse for more than 40 years.

On Jan. 10, a fire decimated the interior of the Auburn Cafe, which has been on Jefferson Ave. in Ecorse since the early 1990s. 

A favorite place for many Downriver denizens, the Auburn Cafe has been in the city for over 44 years, and in the location for more than 30 years. 

Kosta Callis, the owner of the Auburn Cafe, said that he will rebuild the restaurant, which is nearly as old as he is.

A GoFundMe to help the rebuild was started already Saturday morning. 

The Auburn Cafe in Ecorse suffered from a devastating fire.
