(FOX 2) - A blazing fire disrupts several businesses on Detroit’s southwest side early Sunday morning.
“We're trying to sink it in, for us a lot to take in right now,” Hasan said.
Ahmad Hasan and his family can't believe two decades of hard work was just destroyed by fire.
“This is where my family spends most of their time,” he said.
A family business called "Nice Price" sold home goods in the southwest Detroit neighborhood went up in flames around 2 am on Sunday.
The flames moved so fast that they spread to an adjacent business also owned by the family.
“I guess they were in there for probably 20 to 30 minutes and it just got a little intense and that's when they called for a second alarm, the second floor which is down in the first floor now, it collapsed,” Chief Sidney Davis said with the Detroit Fire Department.
When the firefighters arrived they also heard explosions.
“Ammunition I guess from guns ammunition so that's the explosions they heard this morning. Found out later on the owner told us it was weapons from the guns,” Chief Davis said.
As crews worked to put out the flames Fox 2 learned one fire fighter received a minor injury to his shoulder.
Firefighters say they will continue to monitor the scene throughout the day to keep the area safe.
“I just want to take an opportunity to thank these heroes out here they really put their life on the line you don't realize how hard they work until you see it first hand,” Hasan said.
As crews continue to put this fire out the owner says through the determination and hard work this store will be back up and running.
“This is our home so will be back up; You plan to rebuild? Of course of course,” he said.
The investigation is ongoing and the cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time. But Hasan says he hopes fire officials will have some answers soon.
“Try to get pass the next few days and with God's will we'll be ok,” he said.
