Ex-Target employee crashes with allegedly stolen items inside vehicle

Target staff called 911 and as police responded to the scene, he fled in his vehicle northbound on Pardee.

An ex-Target employee allegedly returned to steal on several occasions - but police say it came to an end on Tuesday morning.

The seasonal employee had been fired earlier this month from theTaylor store.

"We got a call from Target, they had a former employee who was stealing from their location," said Lt. Anthony Neal, Taylor police. "The same employee was believed to have stolen from them in the past."

On Tuesday when the suspect  went inside Target before the store opened, police say he was dressed in employee clothing. He then allegedly tried to open a register.

Target staff called 911 and as police responded to the scene, he fled in his vehicle northbound on Pardee.

Inside his vehicle were items police say he stole from Target - a PlayStation 5 priced at $425 and a set of Apple AirPods valued at $250.

"His speeds reached somewhere between 90 and 100 miles an hour," Lt. Neal said. "We had to terminate his pursuit because it was not worth the public safety danger."

But police were soon responding to another scene involving this same suspect.

"He caused a crash at Pardee and Goddard striking two other vehicles," Neal said.

The suspect was the only person injured in the crash, the other parties were not hurt but had damage to their vehicles.

At the crash site, police say they were able to recover the stolen items.

"He was not cooperative at the hospital and had to be treated and perhaps sedated," Neal said.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and the suspect could face a number of charges.

"He is in custody, and no longer a threat to the public," Neal said.
