PONTIAC, Mich. (FOX 2) - Four dollars.
That's all a group of five individuals got during a two-man assault spree that left open wounds on both victims.
"They need to be brought to justice immediately," said Sgt. Stephen Law, of the Oakland County Sheriff Department.
"They" are five individuals, masked and patrolling the streets of Oakland County early Wednesday morning. They came across their first victim around 4 a.m. at a Marathon gas station on North Perry Street and Glenwood Avenue. They approached a 37-year-old man from Pontiac, telling him to "run your pockets."
"It means just run it. Give me all of that, everything you got," said Lawrence, who is appalled by the crime.
Accompanying the suspects was a firearm and a club. The victim handed all of $4 over to the individuals. That forced deposit wasn't satisfactory as the 37-year-old was met with severe beating at the hands of the person carrying the club.
"It's the environment that we live in, the poverty that's going on," said Joseph, a resident. "You feel me? That's how it is out here. People hungry."
Demons not fully exercised, the individuals inflicted similar pain on another man not less than an hour - and mile - away from the first assault. At the corner of Exchange Street and Orchard Lake Road, a 52-year-old man also from Pontiac met the same fate on his walk to work.
"He had headphones on, he didn't hear the individuals come from behind him at which time he was struck," said Law.
The incident left a sizeable gash and trail of blood on the back of the second victim's head.
Both men are expected to be fine. However, police are asking the public to help. Contact the Oakland County Sheriff's Department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP if you know anything.
"I hope they find them though - that's crazy though," said Joseph.
