Former Detroit City Council member Rev. Nicholas Hood Sr. dies

A long-serving member of Detroit's City Council has passed away. Nicholas Hood Sr. died at 91 years old Sunday, April 10, according to family members.


Hood was elected to city council in 1965 and served until 1993. He also pastored Plymouth United Church of Christ, located on east warren near Interstate-75.

He graduated from Yale's Divinity School in 1949 and began his career in New Orleans.

Hood is also a founding member of the Southern Christian Leadership Council with Dr. Martin Luther King.
