Former Hazel Park officer accused of embezzling $85,000

A former Hazel Park police officer is under investigation for allegedly embezzling more than $85,000 from the city.

The Hazel Park Police Department said 18-year veteran Sean K. Boucher is suspected of embezzlement after an internal audit involving non-drug forfeiture funds found "inconsistencies."

Boucher was suspended without pay on Sept. 11, and resigned prior to an investigation hearing. The department says he was not given the option to resign, but made the decision to ahead of the hearing.

The officer was formerly assigned to the department's detective bureau.

Michigan State Police will be conducting the investigation.

No other details will be released pending results from the internal and criminal investigations.
