Grandson arrested in Ohio after woman found dead in Warren home
WARREN, Mich. (FOX 2) - Police in Warren say a family member is in custody after a 68-year-old woman was found dead at her home.
Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer said a man called 911 late Wednesday night to say he hasn't heard from or seen his mother in several days.
Officers responded to a home in the 2400 block of Masch Avenue, which is near 9 Mile and Ryan Road, and eventually found her body hidden inside a large recycling trash bin container that was in a detached garage.
Dwyer says hours later, authorities located and arrested the woman's 23-year-old grandson who had taken her vehicle and fled to a motel in Toledo. The grandson is in custody right now and is awaiting extradition back to Michigan.
Dwyer also said two knives were found inside the bin and that the victim had stab wounds around her neck.
Dwyer said other evidence was found at the woman's home and at the motel, but wouldn't elaborate. Dwyer wasn't sure if the grandson was living at the home at the time, but says authorities are fully confident they have the right suspect in custody.
The woman's car was found about 9 miles away from where her grandson was arrested. It was found in a shopping mall parking lot with three flat tires and has been towed back to Macomb County for evidence.
