Grim discovery of murdered man inside abandoned Detroit school has police asking questions
DETROIT (FOX 2) - Police have a bizarre murder on their hands. They’re trying to figure out who killed a man, believed to be from Genesee County, and left him at an abandoned school.
It’s a murder mystery on Detroit’s westside. Homicide detectives are investigating after they say a 21-year-old man believed to be from Fenton was found dead at an abandoned school located at Wildemere near Buena Vista.
Neighbors were startled once they learned of the discovery.
"I’m kind of scared because I got four kids that stay in this area, and it’s too close," said neighbor Alive Cooper.
Police were called about the incident just before 10pm on Monday night. Sources say the man may have traveled to Detroit from Genessee County to sell a firearm and that at some point his parents reported him missing.
Cops found his car at La Salle and La Belle but no sign of the man. Police dogs picked up a scent there and tracked it to the abandoned school where the man’s body was found.
"My kids and other kids in the neighborhood were going into the school just being kids and I kept telling them like stay out the school you know?" Cooper said. "It might be somebody in there, or you might run into something yall don’t want to see and months later this happened."
Some shell casings were found, but sources say no gun was located.
"I keep hearing gunshots, and then the results is somebody ended up found in houses, and, it’s been too much in this area for sure," Cooper said.
While detectives keep working the case, neighbors want something done to keep people out of the vacant building.
"Why wouldn’t the y board the place up? Because there are entries where you can go in, right here where we are looking at in this area. There’s a door that you can go in and out you can close it, and there’s a window," said neighbor Phillip Mcintosh.
If you know anything about this murder, if you have any information at all, you are asked to call Detroit Police or Crime Stoppers.
