Gun connected to shooting found after driver with warrants arrested at Royal Oak Township hotel
ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2) - A gun connected to a shooting last month at a Royal Oak Township hotel was recovered by police Tuesday after a man with warrants was arrested at the same hotel.
What we know:
According to Michigan State Police, troopers patrolling Eight Mile saw a Dodge Durango matching the description of a wanted vehicle. The driver stopped at American Inn and Suites, and the driver and his passenger went to different rooms.
Troopers then arrested the driver, a 37-year-old Dearborn man, for his warrants. During the arrest, they found cocaine in his pocket, police said.
During a search of the two rooms and Durango, police found a gun they believe is linked to a Dec. 6, 2024 shooting at the hotel.
They also allegedly found 23 bundles of drugs, including heroin and cocaine.
"Great work by Metro North troopers taking this suspect into custody," said MSP F/Lt Mike Shaw. "As the result of this arrest and subsequent investigation, a gun used in a previous shooting was taken off the street."
The backstory:
Around 5:30 p.m. Dec. 6, 2024, one person was wounded in a shooting at the American Inn and Suites at 11000 W Eight Mile Rd.
After learning that a suspect had fled the scene, police found their vehicle in the backyard of a Detroit home. A search warrant was executed, and the suspect was found inside the home.
Police also recovered a weapon.
What we don't know:
It isn't clear how the suspect arrested Tuesday and the gun recovered are connected to the December shooting.
An investigation is ongoing.
