Mother facing eviction is met with holiday blessing thanks to generous donation

A blessing she couldn't have predicted, this single mother of three fell on tough times and was facing eviction from her Harper Woods home.

It's a very Merry Christmas for a single mother and her children in Harper Woods.

They were facing eviction, but thanks to a generous and big surprise, they are now home for the holidays and beyond. Blessed and no stress, that’s how Tamika Jimerson’s Christmas is going to be.

Paid rent and toys for her kids.

A blessing she couldn't have predicted for her and her three children who fell on tough times and were facing eviction from her Harper Woods home.

"When I tried to stop paying the rent and trying to do for the kids, the rent was getting high, so I had to stop for the kids but do the rent, so I couldn't balance," said Jimerson.

She had heard about an event, the All Star Turkey Giveaway in Detroit.

"And I had went down there and stood in line for 2.5 hours. I kept saying like it’s too cold. Walking away. The other side kept saying stay, stay," said Jimerson. "I got up to the tent."

That’s where she met Tarence Wheeler and told him her story.

"I know exactly what that feels like when you’re walking home from school and your stuff is on the curb," said Wheeler. "I didn’t want that to happen to this family."

The next day, Tamika got a call from Pistons legend Isaiah Thomas and his wife.

"She called, and she told me who she were, and she told me what she was going to do, and she asked me for my landlord’s information," he said.

They paid her rent, and then the day before Christmas Eve, they were given a surprise. Gift cards, toys, and more.

"This is really the epitome of powerless kids needing powerful friends," he said. "Any time you’ve got somebody who can help you, just one champion, and now we’re able to help her stay in her home. We’ve got Kroger gift cards on behalf of iHeartMedia for her and some other wraparound services."

"My kids are okay. We’ve got food," said Jimerson. "They gave us gift cards. 500 on there, so we’re good. As long as my kids are good, I’m good. Thank God. Thank God for Tarence Wheeler."

Now this mom can get back on her feet and her family can have a Merry Christmas.
