Highland Park Police search for gunman in gas station shootout
HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (WJBK) - Highland Park Police are searching for a gunman from a fatal shootout Friday night at a Sunoco gas station.
Police say a group of men in two cars, pulled up side-by-side, were having a conversation the gas station parking lot when two men emerged from a nearby field on foot.
The men on foot allegedly fired at the men in the cars. Police say the men in the cars returned fire.
Investigators say a man firing from one of the vehicles is a CPL holder, and fatally wounded one of the gunmen from the field. The other person in the field got away.
"Actually I was just getting ready to go home, changing my shift," says Farok Saleh, the clerk on duty. "I just heard bullets; went straight to the ground."
Police believe the CPL holder's actions may have helped reduce the number of fatalities.
Highland Park Police are reviewing surveillance video from the gas station, which is located on Hamilton Avenue near Webb Street.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 313-852-7338.
