A woman was found strangled to death inside her Highland Park apartment.

Family members of 59-year-old Emma Jean Davis, were worried that she hadn't called them in days.

A wellness check at her apartment on Town Center Drive in Highland Park, Monday around 5, revealed a tragedy.

"It seems like the victim has been strangled," said Marli Blackman, spokesperson for Highland Park.

Highland Park officials believe that the victim had been dead for 48 hours or more, before her body was found inside her apartment.

"She was a beautiful, nice lady, and I came to find out that she was kin to me," said Carl Wilson, a neighbor who knew the victim.

Neighbors say they are shocked that would happen in their quiet apartment complex.

"She was kind to everyone, I can't believe this happened to her," said Ronald Penny, a resident who knew the victim.

At this time, the police do not have anyone in custody and no person of interest.

"Very sad, especially for someone to be alone like that and not be found for several days," said Blackman.
