DETROIT (FOX 2) - An iconic downtown skyscraper that has sat empty for decades is getting new life.
Monday evening the historic Metropolitan Building will shine bright after a special public dedication. Guests will be welcomed into the fully restored Great Hall for the first time since it closed nearly 40 years ago.
The 14-story building has been going through a $30 million renovation after it sat empty since 1979.
The building will be home to Michigan's first Element Hotel, an extended-stay hotel under the Starwood Collection, which will welcome its first guests in time for the North American International Auto Show.
The landmark property will also feature a rooftop restaurant and bar, as well as ground-floor retail and dining, which will open early next year. Details are forthcoming.
